Problems with PTO on 48 inch Exmark mower

Hi Everyone,

I’ve been happy with my 48 inch Exmark riding mower for over 3 years but a few months back the machine wouldn’t turn on. I found a broken fuse under the driver’s seat and installed a new one. But then when I cranked it up and pushed the PTO switch it blew the fuse again and shut my engine off. Has anyone had this problem before?

Alex

Hello Alex,

This could be happening because of a short or even excessive draw. Ensure that the wires connecting the battery to the switch and the switch to the PTO run the entire length – and inspect the wires for any visible damage or wear. Ensure that the connections are also clean and that the metal hasn’t corroded. If all these are fine, inspect your battery’s terminals. One reason your fuse could be blowing is bad circuitry in the PTO switch, or damage to the wiring from moisture and other age-related issues.
